You do not need a study permit IF:

1. You are planning to take a course or program in Canada with a duration of six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
2. You are a minor child already in Canada:
3. You are a minor child already in Canada, and your parents are not “visitors” in Canada.
4. You are a family or staff member of a foreign representative to Canada accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
5. Most foreign students will need a Study Permit to study in Canada.

NOTE:
Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) & Study Permit

A TRP is an official document issued by a visa office abroad. Students entering Canada are required to have this stamped in their passport in addition to having a study permit. It is placed in your passport to show that you have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident. A Visa officer will issue a TRP at the same time as the documentation that you will need to enter Canada as a student.

If you wish to leave and re-enter Canada during the period of your authorized stay as a student, you will need a valid TRP for your return travel to Canada. (Many students have faced trouble on returning to Canada as they have a valid study permit but not a valid TRP!)
